Government forces arrested 47 people and confiscated 61 loose firearms during an operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur.

According to the 6th Infantry Division (6ID), civilians reported to authorities the presence of armed men in their community as they feared for their safety.

Armed clashes between two armed groups reportedly continued despite peace dialogues conducted together with the local government.

A joint law enforcement operation was then launched.

“The troops of 601Bde are supporting the PNP of Mamasapano in the conduct of Law Enforcement Operations in response to the criminal activities committed by these lawless armed groups to fully implement the rule of law,” 601st Brigade Officer-in-Charge, Col. Ricky Bunayog, said.

“We will not tolerate any individual or group who will violate the law of the land and Human Rights. We urge everyone to provide any information that pertains to the criminal activities that may happen in your respective communities so that the authorities can act and file corresponding cases against the peace spoilers,” Bunayog added.

6ID and Joint Task Force Central Commander, Maj. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, said the military will coordinate with the police for other operations should the conflicts persist.

“This will include confiscating illegal and loose firearms and filing appropriate criminal charges against those involved in ongoing clashes. We are committed to ensuring that those who fail to heed this call for peace will face the full force of the law. We remain dedicated to working together with all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region,” Nafarrete said.
