More than 300 individuals were evacuated after the water level at Layawan River in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental rose following continuous rains.
The river reportedly overflowed, and the water entered some houses in Barangay Villaflor.
The evacuees from different barangays are taking shelter at evacuation centers.
Classes were also suspended in all levels in public and private schools on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal has ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to monitor the situation.
The local government urged residents to stay vigilant and follow authorities if preemptive evacuation is implemented.
