A graduate of Cebu Normal University (CNU) in Cebu City ranked Number 1 in the Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination, while eight others made it to the Top 10.

Charimae Cañazares of Balamban town in Cebu Province, who graduated Magna Cum Laude, scored 92.60 percent to secure the top spot.

In a press conference on Friday, November 29, 2024, the new nurses expressed overflowing joy in the recent achievement, most especially Cañazares who said she had prepared well for the examination.

In fact, she disclosed, she has always aimed to be in the roster of topnotchers.

Cañazares said she has always set her eyes on excellence and grew up an achiever in various pursuits. She said she has been diligent in her studies, especially when she took up Nursing.

She implied that if there is one word she does not acknowledge, it is “mediocrity.”

During the presscon, Cañazares also shared that she has two options to a career. First, to perform her vocation as a nurse; the other is to pursue Medicine as she aspires to become a full-fledged doctor.

The other eight CNU graduates on Top 10 are the following:

  • Marc Emmanuel Estillore (Number 4)
  • Jaymi Loise Abellana (Number 5)
  • Liza May Salas (Number 6)
  • Laarni Jane Durango (Number 7)
  • Mae Jyn Rosalita (Number 8)
  • Mary Angelique Tabasa (also on Number 8)
  • Roy Justin Erandio (Number 9)
  • Jeremiah Paul Ureta (Number 10)

The new nurses took the opportunity to thank their mentors and the institution that helped hone and prepare them not just for the examinations, but for life, as well as their parents and the rest of the members of their families.

QUALITY EDUCATION

It was eight years ago when a CNU graduate took the number one spot in the licensure exam. CNU has since then maintained its 100-percent passing rate.

Vice President for Academic and Internal  Affairs, Dr. Joseph Elvir Tubilan, and College of Nursing Dean, Dr. Laurence Garcia, on behalf of the institution, vowed to continue providing quality education with academic excellence at its core.

It was learned that the new nurses will receive a cash incentive from CNU.

Cañazares is set to receive P100,000; while Estillore and Abellana are to get P60,000.

The rest will receive P40,000.
