Residents of five barangays in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte have been ordered to evacuate due to inclement weather on Friday, November 29, 2024.
These barangays are Oyan, Burgos, Ilaya, Barcelona, and Baao.
Mayor Seth Frederick Jalosjos issued an executive order directing the preemptive evacuation as a measure to ensure the safety and welfare of residents in barangays with high risks of flooding and landslides.
Under the executive order, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMC) were ordered to coordinate and oversee the evacuation.
Police and other law enforcement agencies were also directed to assist and provide security during evacuation.
Meanwhile, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) was tasked to provide food, water, medical assistance, and other necessities to evacuees.
Some areas in the city have experienced heavy rains since evening of Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Classes in all levels in public and private schools were suspended.
