Even before the year ends, the number of dengue cases in Tagum City went up to more than 2,000.
Based on data from the Tagum City Health Office (CHO), dengue cases reached around 2,277 from January to November 2024, which is 84 percent higher than the 1,238 cases logged in the same period in 2023.
The number of those who died from dengue also reached 11. The latest fatality was a five-year-old girl from Barangay Magugpo Poblacion.
CHO said Barangay Visayan Village has the most cases with 367, followed by Barangay Apokon, Mankilam, La Filipina, Madaum, San Miguel, and Magdum.
Health authorities reminded the public anew to maintain cleanliness and practice the 5S habit against dengue: Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; self-protection like using insect repellents; seek early consultation; support fogging, spraying, and misting in hot spot areas; and sustain hydration.
