The Police Regional Office 2 (PRO-2) presented during a recent Regional Joint Security Control Meeting more than 4,000 firearms seized or surrendered in Cagayan Valley in the past five years.

According to PRO-2, around 4,400 firearms of various types and calibers will be turned over to the Regional Civil Security Unit.

These weapons were confiscated, surrendered voluntarily, or left unclaimed by owners from 2019 to 2024.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) credited the success to their intensified campaign against loose firearms under "Oplan Katok," which encourages firearm owners to comply with licensing regulations.

With the upcoming elections, PRO-2 assured that security efforts will be heightened.

The police also aim to strengthen partnerships with other agencies to prevent violent incidents in the region.
