A cargo vessel crashed into a fish port in Kimaya, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental evening on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

According to the Coast Guard District-Northern Mindanao (CGDNM), the collision damaged the roof and one of the pillars of the fish port, as well as a fish carrier truck and a fishing boat.

Based on initial investigation, the vessel was heading to Libor Port in Langtad, Naga City, Cebu from the port in Jasaan when the incident happened.

The vessel reportedly encountered engine trouble when it departed in astern position about 200 meters away from the port.

A few minutes later, the vessel crashed into the port.

“According to the Master, they departed from port in astern position. About two hundred meters (200) meters from port, he noticed that vessel is going ahead even if throttle is in astern position. He then let go of forward port anchor and starboard anchor to prevent the vessel from moving ahead,” the CGDNM said.

No one was hurt in the incident.

CGDNM said the shipping company will shoulder all expenses incurred due to the incident, including the repair of the fish carrier truck and the fishing boat.
