A woman died while her husband was injured after they were shot while on board a tricycle on the way home in Oraan East, Manaoag, Pangasinan.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
The woman, Virginia Abarcar, 57, sustained gunshot wounds to her head and body. Her husband, 64, was wounded in the attack.
The suspects fled on a motorcycle.
"Marami ng tao nung dumating ako dun. Wala, wala ng buhay talaga ['yung babae]," Barangay Chairman Edwin Lacaste said.
"Parang wala akong alam na kasalanan o kaalitan, eh, kaya blanko kami; pati kami, nabigla," he added.
Six shell casings of a .45 firearm were recovered from the scene.
Police said the shooting may have something to do with a land dispute.
"Land dispute ang lumalabas. Ngayon, right after the incident, nag-conduct ng hot pursuit operation ang mga kapulisan diyan sa Manaoag, na nagresulta sa pagkakaaresto ng suspek," PCOL. Rollyfer Capoquian, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office Director, said.
A hot pursuit operation led to the arrest of one suspect, while another remains at large, as of this writing.
The suspect denied the accusations against him but the police said they have a witness who could testify about the shooting.
"Normal na sasabihin niya na ganun talaga. Idi-deny nila ‘yung ginawa nilang krimen. But then, matibay ‘yung ebidensiya natin dahil may testigo [o] eye witness doon sa pinangyarihan ng krimen," Capoquian said.
Authorities are awaiting an autopsy report to finalize charges against the suspects.
The victims' family has declined to give statements.
