The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has affirmed the wage order granting P33 increase in the minimum wage for workers in the private sector in Zamboanga Peninsula.
NWPC said the daily minimum wage in the non-agriculture sector, including service and retail establishments that have 10 or more workers, is now P414, from P381.
The P368 daily wage in the agriculture sector, including service and retail establishments that employ one to nine workers, will now become P401.
The new wage order will take effect on December 12, 2024.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-Zamboanga (RTWPB-9) has approved the new wage order on November 11, 2024. It was affirmed by the NWPC on November 22.
“In affirming the wage order, the NWPC found that RTWPB IX complied with the criteria for determining a wage increase under Republic Act No. 6727, which include the needs of workers and their families, capacity of employers/industry to pay, and the requirements of economic and social development in the region,” NWPC said.
Around 95,990 minimum wage earners in the region are expected to benefit from the new wage order.
