Persons aged 59 years old and are legitimate residents of the City of Lapu-Lapu are enjoined to register early at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) to be able to claim financial assistance immediately upon reaching the age of 60 years old.

Presidents of senior citizens associations of the city’s barangays converged morning on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, along with owners and operators of pharmacies, restaurants, and other stakeholders.

The purpose is for the participants to undergo an orientation and a review on the laws that protect the rights of senior citizens.

Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Annabeth Cuizon, chairperson of the Committee on Social Services, Senior Citizens, and Persons with Disability (PWD), encouraged persons who are already 59 years old and registered residents of the city to appear for pre-registration at the OSCA.

She said that the pre-registration will help the City Council prepare the budget for financial assistance to senior citizens in 2025.

Senior citizens are set to receive P8,000 each.

The amount will be distributed in two payout schedules; the first is set in May 2025 while the second in December 2025.

Currently, Lapu-Lapu City has a total of 33,705 registered senior citizens.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Unit of Lapu-Lapu City awaits the Implementing Rules and Regulations on the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2016 that stipulates payout of cash gift worth P10,000 to senior citizens ages 80, 85, 90, and 95 years old.
