Another dog has fallen victim to animal cruelty.

The dog was shot by a sling-launched dart, referred to locally as “Indian panâ or Indian target,” in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Christine Pudadera, the dog owner, said that her pet “Lukas” (unleashed) was expected to return home on November 23, 2024, but failed. However, when Lukas did appear, an arrow was found stuck in a section of its butt.

The condition, Pudadera said, brought both disheartenment and disgust.

“Ang mensahe ko lang sa gumawa nito kay Lukas, ang Diyos na lang ang bahala sa iyo,” Pudadera said.

According to Community Animal Rescue Efforts (CARE), Inc. that responded to Lukas' condition, the dog could have gone astray and went across the road to another neighborhood.

It was reported that the culprit is of minor age.

“Mabuti na lang at hindi natamaan ang organ pero ang lalim ng tama. The way I understand, it was for fun and minor (ang may gawa). Hindi lang nga raw isang aso ang na-Indian target nito, several dogs na,” Aiai Gamboa, president of Care Inc., said.

Gamboa said that the dog was taken immediately to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

The dog went through emergency surgery to remove the “Indian target” that was lodged on its rears.

As of posting time, Lukas continues to receive treatment.

Concerned residents express support to hold the minor accountable for Lukas’ predicament.

“Maramdaman sana nila kung ano ang naramdaman ng binaril (ng Indian target),” Joeffrey, a resident, said.

Pudadera and the animal welfare organization have coordinated with the authorities to have the minor person summoned along with his parents.
