Several aspirants for the 2025 midterm elections in Pangasinan have requested for police security, according to the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO).

However, these requests are not granted automatically and require thorough assessment.

“Mayroon nang nagre-request, pero kasi may requirements na dapat nilang sundin. Depende ‘yan sa assessment kung need talaga ng security o hindi,” PCOL. Rollyfer Capoquian, Pangasinan PPO Director, said.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) also reviews such requests after the initial police evaluation.

Despite these applications, authorities have not detected any security threats in Pangasinan or nearby regions.

“Wala namang nababanggit ang PNP (Philippine National Police) o namo-monitor kasi nagsasabi naman agad sila sa amin,” Atty. Reddy Balarbar, Assistant Regional Election Director of COMELEC Region 1, said.

A joint meeting among COMELEC, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) is expected before 2024 ends to discuss election security, including areas of concern.

“Possible na madagdagan pero pwede ring mabawasan,” Capoquian added regarding the list of areas under scrutiny for potential threats.
