A 59-year-old woman died after she was thrown off from a 'kulong-kulong' when it overturned during a road accident in Barangay Bued, Calasiao, Pangasinan.

‘Kulong-kulong’ is a type of tricycle that is used typically to transport goods and even animals.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the time the vehicle collided with a bicycle before overturning.

The victim was the driver's wife. She was rushed to the hospital but did not make it there alive.

“’Yung driver, tumaob yung kulong-kulong niya, at the same time, meron siyang kasama: ‘yung asawa niya. And eventually, itinakbo ‘yung asawa niya sa ospital pero dead on arrival sa ospital,” PLTCOL Ferdinand Lopez, chief of Calasiao Police Station, said.

The couple, who were dried fish vendors, were on their way to Calasiao from Sta. Barbara to sell their products.

Police said the driver swerved to avoid a 14-year-old pedestrian crossing the road but they collided with the bicycle, instead.

The child and cyclist involved were unharmed. The parties involved have settled the matter.

Barangay officials noted frequent accidents in the area and plan to request additional traffic signs from the local government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Dito po sa barangay namin ay accident-prone,” Barangay Bued Chairperson Allan Roy Macanlalay said.

Authorities remind motorists to drive carefully, especially along busy national highways.

“[Kailagan din] ‘yung driver’s education, disiplina sa kalsada, most importantly, ‘yung defensive driving po tayo,” Macanlalay added.
