Security at a school in Cagayan de Oro has been tightened after some students were found carrying alleged illegal drugs in separate occasions.
Four senior high school students of Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) allegedly brought a jar of marijuana inside the classroom. They were caught after their classmates reported them to school authorities.
On Monday, November 18, 2024, another student was found bringing alleged marijuana into the school. He was intercepted at the gate.
“Nisulod siya sa morning. Pagsulod niya sa gate, ipa-open man ang bag… naa man ang marijuana, iyang gikuha kay isulod sa bulsa. Pagsulod niya sa bulsa, wala siguro na-sealed, nahulog ang marijuana sa salog,” Melende Catid, the school principal, said.
The student was turned over to the police.
The incident has worried some parents.
“Basin maka-influence sila bitaw unya paggawas nila basin simbako mag-tripping-tripping like nahitabo two years ago mao hadlok sab mi ana sa nahitabo, mao dapat i-super pa nila ilang security gyud,” a parent, Nanette Agbong, said.
The school has already implemented tight security while the police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) are conducting surveillance operations to identify the source of the alleged illegal drugs.
Some police officers will also patrol inside and outside the school to ensure the safety of students.
Parents are also urged to monitor their children.
“I-monitor pud nila ilang mga anak… mangutana sila kamusta na ang standing sa ilang bata… from time to time, ilang e-check ilang mga anak, tabangan ta ni,” Catid said.
