A suspect in the slay of a 22-year-old woman found dumped at the seaside in South Road Properties (SRP), Cebu City was arrested in San Remigio town, northern Cebu Province.
Police Major Efren Diaz, Jr., chief of Mambaling Police Station in Cebu City, identified the suspect as Godofredo Brufal.
The suspect was arrested in Barangay Sab-a, San Remigio town, northern Cebu Province at around 1 a.m. on November 21, 2024, in coordination with the San Remigio Police.
Pieces of evidence were found in the suspect's possession such as the victim's cellphone, power charger, and pair of shoes.
The suspect was further found to have possessed a .38-caliber revolver with live bullets.
The victim was identified as Neca Denise Lagria, a resident of Liloan town. Her body was found dumped morning on November 19, 2024.
Lagria was on her way purportedly to attend an early meeting in a food establishment in Mandaue City where she works, but failed to come home that day. Her family tried to contact her, but she could not be reached.
She sustained a wound on her neck and blotches which authorities believe could have been inflicted by manual strangulation (or done by hand).
The suspect was taken into custody by the Mambaling Police. Later, he was confronted by the family of the victim at the Cebu City Police Office.
Initial police investigation had it that the suspect got enraged when his tongue was bitten allegedly by the victim as he reportedly stole a kiss.
However, Major Diaz did not provide information on the motive of the suspect as investigation is ongoing.
The suspect kept mum when he was asked by members of the media for a statement.
He is detained at the Mambaling Police Station custodial facillity awaiting appropriate charges to be filed against him.
