Two soldiers were wounded after armed men fired at the military truck they were riding as they were passing through Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.

The windshield of the military vehicle was riddled with bullets after the ambush.

According to the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom), the troops of the 45th Infantry Battalion returned fire, which reportedly forced the enemy to pull back.

Two of the eight soldiers on board the military truck were wounded and are now in safe condition.

“By chances napadaan yung tropa sa area, unidentified armed group sila. Nasa report 3 to 4 persons yung involved,” WestMinCom Chief Public Information Officer, Major Orlando Ayllon Jr., said.

The military troops were heading to the 45IB headquarters in Barangay Buhi-Paho, Ungkaya Pukan  from the headquarters of the Charlie Company in Barangay Magcawa in Al-Barka town when the ambush was staged.

“Hindi naman natin makontrol o maiwasan pero yung ASG-free at insurgency-free yun yung current status ng Basilan, so yung nangyari na yan is isolated case,” Ayllon added.
