Two individuals were arrested with alleged smuggled cigarettes worth around P2.5 million in an entrapment operation in Davao City.
According to the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11), the suspects were arrested after allegedly selling two master cases of cigarettes to an undercover operative who acted as a poseur buyer.
Also seized during the operation were 48 master cases of cigarettes worth around P2.5 million.
The suspects may face charges for alleged violation of the The Graphic Health Warnings Law (RA 10643) and the Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act (RA 12022).
PRO-11 lauded the team for the successful operation.
“PRO 11 will continuously get rid of illegal transactions like smuggling and other illegal activities to maintain peace and order in Davao Region in support to PGen Rommel Francisco Marbil, Chief PNP’s order, to intensify the PNP’s efforts in cracking down counterfeit and smuggled cigarettes nationwide, which poses a threat to the livelihood of local tobacco farmers and public health,” PRO-11 said.
