Floodwaters at the Buenlag Central School in Calasiao, Pangasinan have not subsided even after almost a month, disrupting face-to-face classes for over 900 students.
The flooding began in October during Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and worsened with subsequent storms, including Pepito.
Classrooms remain waterlogged, and algae has developed in stagnant floodwaters.
"Mayroon po tayong swamp diyan sa likod. Diyan po dumadaloy yung tubig noon, pero ngayon, parang na-cover po yung daanan ng tubig kaya nandito na," Adalia Mamaril, the school’s assistant principal, said.
In response, the school implemented modular learning for students.
Barangay officials are working with the local government and landowners nearby to find a solution for draining the water.
"Nagawan ng paraan, kaya lang, talagang mataas yung tubig kasi nagpakawala ata ng tubig ang dam kaya medyo lumalalim ang tubig," Melvin De Vera, the barangay councilman, said.
Officials are studying long-term solutions to prevent future flooding at the school.
