Vegetable prices have tripled in Dagupan City following a series of typhoons that devastated supply chains in Northern and Central Luzon.

At the Malimgas Public Market, eggplants that used to cost P40-50 per kilo now sell for P150, while tomatoes have skyrocketed to P140 per kilo.

“Sobrang mahal talaga tapos mabubulukan ka pa,” Concepcion Bonus, a vegetable vendor, said.

Vendors struggle with limited deliveries, forcing some to stop selling altogether.

“Kakaunti kasi talaga dahil walang supplier,” Lanie Ayson, another vendor, said.

Shoppers, meanwhile, are left to adjust.

“Mahal ang gulay kasi binagyo eh, bibili kahit mahal kasi kailangan ng katawan natin,” Jayson Goton, a buyer, said.

Vendors predict the impact of the typhoons will continue to affect vegetable prices in the coming days.

However, they are hopeful that prices will normalize by December 2024 if weather conditions improve.
