Loose rocks killed a 27-year-old coal mine laborer while at work in a small-scale mining operation in the City of Naga, south Cebu Province.
The incident occurred reportedly at a depth of about 100 meters at 6 a.m. on November 15, 2024.
In an investigation by City of Naga Police, the victim was identified as a certain Robert Abalorio. He was reportedly with two other workers inside a mine shaft when the incident happened.
Based on the account of witnesses, the shaft collapsed that led to the loosening of rocks. Of the three, Abalorio was hit severely by the falling rocks that killed him on the spot. His other companion was injured, while the other one escaped from the shaft unscathed.
The coal mining operation has been put on a halt, as of this writing, while investigation on the incident is going on.
