A barangay councilman in Davao City was arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
In an interview with GMA Super Radyo Davao, Sta. Maria Municipal Police Station Chief, Captain Jan Reywan Abdia, said the councilman is 34 years old.
Police said it was the mother of the victim who reported the matter to the police on November 13, 2024.
The Women and Child Protection Desk launched an investigation immediately and, later, arrested the suspect who the victim identified positively.
Authorities said medical examination results indicated that the girl was raped. Investigation also found that she was raped twice.
The councilman, for his part, claimed he and the girl have a relationship.
He is facing rape charges.
