Two cement factory workers in the Municipality of San Fernando, south Cebu Province died while cleaning a cement mill.

Dust materials reportedly fell upon them and entombed them while they were cleaning up a cement mill at past 8 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024.

Both victims are 45 years old and are residents of San Fernando; one of them is a foreman.

Police Major Jan Christian Bautista, chief of the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, in an interview with DYSS Super Radyo GMA, said that while the two were using a vacuum to clear the spillage of the dust collector, the foreman and the other worker went reportedly inside the dust collector. But when they started to use the vacuum, the materials gathered by the dust collector fell down on them and buried them.

The two were rushed to the Carcar District Hospital, but the foreman was declared dead on arrival. Efforts were made to revive the other victim but he expired there.

It was learned that the cement manufacturing company has already submitted an incident report to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and that an investigation is underway, as of posting time.

As for the San Fernando Police, they will check on the accountability of the company and its safety officers in the incident.

“Iche-check pa rin ng PNP kung may liable ba doon sa (nangyari),” Bautista said.

The company vowed to provide assistance to the respective families of the victims, Bautista added.
