A 10-year-old boy about to go to school figured in an accident when a steel bar pierced his left eyelid.

A video showed the child holding the steel bar in place to pad further possible injury and pain while he was seated on a monobloc chair and carried by rescuers to the transport vehicle.

He was rushed to the hospital.

The incident happened in Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Apas, Cebu City at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12,2024.

When GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak reached the area, a few residents said that they heard of a child wailing at about noontime. They went out to check and saw that the boy was looking up and in excruciating pain.

Residents found out that a steel bar being used to support a dangling electrical wire pierced his eyelid.

A neighbor named Edwin Dionio, Jr. said that the end of the steel bar was bended to resemble a hook.

It was learned that the child lives with his sibling in Cebu City because his parents live reportedly far away.

The Department of Social Welfare Services of the Cebu City Government pledged to assist the child in his medical bills and on to his full recovery.

Earlier, a sharp-edged iron grill of a house gate pierced the left arm of a 12-year-old boy in A. Lopez Street, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City.

The boy was playing “takyan” (a game of kicking or foot volley using a washer wrapped in plastic with twine to resemble a shuttlecock).

According to the report, the boy and his two playmates were engaged in the game when suddenly the washer went too high and landed on the roof of a house. The boy climbed the roof to recover the washer.

However, when he resumed playing, it was his shoe that landed on the roof this time. He went up again to recover his footwear but lost his balance, fell off the roof, and hit the gate.

The sharp end of the iron grill that resembles an arrowhead wounded the boy severely.

Rescuers took the boy to the hospital. As of this writing, he is recuperating at home.
