Authorities seized alleged smuggled fuel worth around P1.6 million near Sanga-Sanga Island in Tawi-Tawi on Monday, November 11, 2024.
Personnel of the Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepted a motorized boat loaded with around 12,000 liters of diesel and 24,000 liters of gasoline without documents.
The vessel was intercepted while authorities were conducting routine maritime security patrol.
Authorities were forced to inspect the vessel after its crew allegedly did not respond despite attempts to establish communication.
The vessel had 14 crew members and seven passengers on board.
The vessel and the crew members were turned over to the BOC and they may face charges for alleged violation of the the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863).
“This successful operation demonstrates the Philippine Navy’s ongoing commitment to securing the nation’s waters and curbing illegal maritime activities,” the Naval Forces Western Mindanao Command (NFWM) said.
