Nearly 4,000 illegal firearms were turned over to the Pangasinan Police in an effort to secure a peaceful 2025 midterm elections.
During a ceremony at Camp Antonio Sison’s Magilas Hall in Lingayen, authorities presented 3,929 firearms that were confiscated, captured, surrendered, deposited, abandoned, or forfeited.
Of this number, 2,910 had expired licenses, which authorities handed over to the Regional Civil Security Unit 1.
"’Yung deposited po, may plano pang bawiin ng may-ari. Wala lang time na mag-renew ng lisensiya," PLTCOL Regina Abanales, Officer-in-Charge of Regional Civil Security Unit-1, said.
The event aimed to support the province’s dedication to a peaceful and orderly election, ensuring safety for Pangasinense residents.
Police praised the public's cooperation, recognizing it as a strong commitment to the Secure, Accurate, Free, and Fair Elections 2025 program.
"’Yung mga firearms owner na may expired na license. Sana i-deposit nila sa nearest police station habang pina-process ang kanilang lisensiya," Abanales said.
The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office assured residents there are no private armed groups (PAGs) in Pangasinan that could disrupt election security.
"Wala tayong PAGs. ‘Yung validation last year, it was potential. But it turned out na hindi PAGs," PCPT Renan Dela Cruz, Pangasinan Police spokesperson, said.
