On the eve of the 11th anniversary of Super Typhoon (ST) Yolanda (international name: Haiyan), a Holy Mass was held at the Anibong Shipwreck Memorial honoring thousands of lives lost to the tragedy.
Rev. Fr. Ronnie Mora officiated the Holy Mass.
Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, in his message, urged the people to pray for those in Northern Luzon who are, as of posting time, fighting for their lives due to Typhoon Marce (Yinxing).
Following the blessing of the shipwreck, M/V Eva Jocelyn that rammed onto houses and claimed several lives during a storm surge, Mayor Romualdez led the lighting of candles for the lives lost on November 8, 2013, in Tacloban City.
Students, teachers, administrators, and staff members of the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) joined in the commemoration through a separate program on their school grounds.
ST Yolanda is deemed as one of the world's deadliest typhoons with approximately 7,000 lives lost.
"Together, we honor the memory of those affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda and reflect on the strength and resilience that continue to define us, eleven years later," EVSU in a post said.
