A new species of the blueberry plant was discovered at the Mt. Apo Geopark in Davao del Sur.

It is called vaccinium fallax, a micro-endemic tropical blueberry that can be found at Mt. Apo.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao (DENR-11), the plant can grow from the height comparable to an average two-year-old baby to the height of an adult human.

Because the plant is rare, it was recommended to be classified as a critically endangered species based on the guidelines of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

DENR-11 said the discovery of the new blueberry plant species is a testament to the big role of geodiversity at Mt. Apo to produce endemic and unique flora species.
