A police intelligence officer and a fugitive were killed in an armed confrontation after the latter allegedly fought back during the service of a warrant in Davao City.
Personnel of the Paquibato Police Station launched an operation after receiving information that the target identified as alias “Osie” was sighted in Barangay Malabog.
However, the suspect refused to surrender and fired shots at the operating team, which resulted in the death of Staff Sergeant Noel Marundan.
Marundan sustained a gunshot wound in the body and did not reach the hospital alive.
“Ang atoang intel operatives, nagpaila nga pulis sila sa Paquibato Police Station and then siguro dili gyud siya musurrender sa atong kapulisan mao tong nisukol siya. Giunahan niyag pabuto ang atoang intel operatives,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Tuazon, said.
Authorities retaliated and killed the suspect.
“Ang kani man gud nga area, dili ni siya duol lang sa Paquibato, layo-layo gyud ni siya and as per Paquibato Police Station, duha pa ka bungtod usa pa mareach, maabot ang area nga gipuy-an sa maong suspek,” Tuazon added.
The suspect was an alleged former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) and is facing charges for two counts of murder; kidnapping and serious illegal detention; and robbery by a band.
DCPO and Mayor Sebastian Duterte have expressed their sympathies to the family of the policeman.
