Authorities in Calasiao, Pangasinan seized nearly 10 faulty weighing scales from vendors at the town’s public market after an inspection revealed the defects.

Calasiao Market Supervisor Teddy Tuliao said the scales confiscated were old, which was why these would malfunction easily.

"Usually, yung na-confiscate natin luma, kaya nagkakadepekto, nag-aalog. Hindi maiiiwasan natagtag sa pagta-travel nila," Tuliao said.

Some vendors assured customers that their scales are accurate.

"Para yung namimili may tiwala sa mga nagtitinda, dapat tama yung timbangan, para yung namimili hindi ma-agrabiyado," Marissa Maravilla, a vendor, said.

Customers like Marilou Andaya also expressed the importance of proper measurements.

The Market Division assured the public that the scales undergo proper calibration to prevent market fraud.

However, authorities are stepping up their monitoring, especially with the Christmas season approaching.
