A section of the Tondaligan Baywalk in Barangay Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City collapsed again after strong waves hit the area on November 6, 2024.
Barangay Chairman Wilmer Castañares said the damage occurred near the Fisherman’s Hub.
"Sa may Fisherman’s Hub, gumuhon na naman dahil sa tumaas na alon, tapos yun bumagsak yung bandang Fisherman’s Hub," Castañares said.
Authorities have warned people against swimming near the baywalk.
"Iwasan nating maligo doon sa bahagi ng baywalk hanggang Bagong Baryo... kasi andoon yung matutulis na bato at saka yung mga bakal na nakausli para iwas aksidente," Castañares added.
The Barangay Council is working with the local government and DPWH to repair the structure.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started clearing the damaged part of the baywalk.
Plans are underway to reinforce the seawall with steel sheet piles to withstand waves and strong winds in the future.
"‘Yung sa seawall protection, panibagong structure yun kasi natanggal, kasi nasira talaga yung structure, so we’re planning, meron silang dinesign na mas matibay [na] sea protection na doon," Engr. Criselda Nicer, Project Engineer for DPWH Region 1, said.
