Typhoon #MarcePH has battered Cagayan with fierce winds and heavy waves, forcing thousands of families to evacuate.

As of 5 p.m. on November 7, 2024, more than 6,000 families have been evacuated.

In Gonzaga town, the winds were strong enough to rip roofs off, and bend and bring trees to the ground.

Power poles have leaned and power lines were pulled down to the streets. Outages were recorded in several towns, including Sta. Ana, Buguey, Lasam, Lal-lo, Baggao, and Allacapan.

Communication lines in Calayan were also affected, which made it harder to coordinate relief efforts.

In coastal areas, a storm surge has reached homes and other structures.

“Lubog na ‘yung school doon,” Edward Gaspar, the Gonzaga Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) officer, said.

In Barangay Caroan, sea waves flooded homes near the shoreline.

Willie Realica, a resident, said despite the dangers, he and his neighbors have chosen to stay put.

“Hindi na kami lilikas, sanay naman na kami,” he said.
