A passenger of a cruise ship at anchor off Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan drowned near Cagban Jetty in Barangay Manoc-manoc.

According to Malay Police, the 71-year-old Australian national took a swim at 10:30 a.m. on November 6, 2024 over 10 meters away from the shoreline.

He was reportedly with other passengers. However, minutes later, the foreigner was observed to have had a hard time staying afloat. He then shouted for help.

Responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the tourist to the Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital in Barangay Balabag but he was declared dead on arrival at 11:50 a.m.

He died of respiratory failure secondary to drowning, according to the attending physician.
