The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) destroyed more than P55 million worth of dangerous drugs at a facility in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte.
According to the PDEA-BARMM, the dangerous drugs destroyed weighed around 8,172,724.7 grams.
“This is the second destruction I have overseen during my stint at PDEA BARMM. The first took place in Sulu on April 24, 2024, where over ₱65 million worth of illegal drugs were destroyed. With this sizable quantity of illicit drugs eradicated today, we are saving countless lives from the dangers of illegal substances," PDEA-BARMM Director, Gil Cesario Castro, said.
The destruction of dangerous drugs is in accordance with the guidelines set in the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165) and the Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation.
PDEA-BARMM added that nearly P411 million worth of dangerous drugs, including shabu, marijuana, and expired medicines, have been destroyed in 13 destruction events since 2014.
“The volume of dangerous drugs destroyed today marks one of the largest ever disposed of, reflecting an unwavering commitment and determination of the Bangsamoro government and instrumentalities to protecting lives and fostering a brighter future for the Bangsamoro people,” PDEA-BARMM said.
