A 37-year-old man died after the tricycle he was riding collided with a motorcycle on the national highway in Barangay Bantayan, Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

The victim was identified as Orly Narvarte.

Authorities reported that the tricycle, traveling from Ilocos and heading to Anda, Pangasinan, allegedly crossed into the opposite lane, leading to the fatal crash.

Narvarte suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle driver and passenger are in critical condition.

Six passengers of the tricycle sustained various injuries.

According to Barangay Kagawad Melvin De Leon, the area is well-lit, and additional streetlights have been installed due to frequent accidents.

“Maliwanag naman ‘yung barangay namin dito, wala kayong masasabi sa liwanag dito sa highway — nagdagdag kami ng ilaw,” De Leon said.

Police are investigating if either driver was under the influence.

PCPT. Hernando R. Martinez, Mangaldan Police Operations Officer, reminded drivers to prioritize safety.

"Paalala lang po na sana lagi nating iisipin ang pagiging defensive driver natin at mag-ingat po lagi sa pagmamaneho, at sundin ang batas trapiko para hindi tayo mapahamak sa daan," he said.

The motorcycle driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
