A sharp-edged bar of a steel gate pierced the left arm of a 12-year-old boy in A. Lopez Street, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City.
In a report over DYSS Super Radyo Cebu, the boy was playing “takyan” (a game of kicking or foot volley using a washer wrapped in plastic with twine to resemble a shuttlecock).
According to the report, the boy and his two playmates were engaged in the game when suddenly the washer went too high and landed on the roof of a house. The boy climbed the roof to recover the washer but lost his balance, fell off the roof, and hit the gate.
The sharp end of a bar of the gate that resembles an arrowhead wounded the boy severely.
City Fire personnel, members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and members of the Labangon Rescue Squad had to saw off the sharp object before he could be taken to the hospital.
The rescue procedure took over an hour as the object pierced through the boy's armpit.
As of this writing, the child was already rushed to the nearest hospital.
