Authorities rescued nine people from a distressed banca in the waters of Barangay Tibanban, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
According to the Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental, the fishing banca with nine people on board, including two operators, was heading to Sigaboy Island.
However, seawaters entered the banca and affected the engine, causing the banca to sink.
The seven friends on board allegedly rented the banca to transport them to Sigaboy Island. However, it was found out that the banca allegedly did not coordinate with the Coast Guard unit in the area.
The Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental is still looking into whether or not it will press charges against the operator.
