A 30-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) reunited with her family in Mangaldan, Pangasinan after enduring alleged maltreatment while working as a cleaner overseas for nearly two years.

The worker said her employer in Kuwait treated her well at first until in 2024 when the situation reportedly changed. She allegedly was subjected to verbal abuse often and was made to do tasks outside the scope of her job.

She said she chose to endure it for her family.

However, on October 2024, she was fired unexpectedly without cause and was not given her full salary.

“Ang purpose nila sa pagpunta doon ay magtrabaho at kumita ng pera, pero ganu'n ang nangyari sa kanya,” Ernie Cuison, Mangaldan Migrant Desk Officer, said.

Angela turned to fellow Filipinos in Kuwait for help, while her family in the Philippines sought assistance from the Mangaldan local government, which worked with government agencies to facilitate her safe return.

The local government unit (LGU) also prepared support for her recovery.

“’Yun ang talagang tinutukan natin,” Cuison said.
