Gunmen ambushed a car carrying former Barangay Gabon chairman Dexter Jimenez, 58, in Calasiao, Pangasinan, killing him on the spot and injuring his wife, Marites, 61.
The shooting happened on Sunday, October 3, 2024.
The suspects, who remain unidentified, as of this writing, opened fire on the vehicle along Barangay San Miguel.
Dexter was wounded fatally with six .45-caliber gunshot wounds to the head and body.
Marites sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital, while a family friend accompanying them escaped unharmed.
Police ruled out political motives and are investigating the possibility of a personal debt-related dispute.
“Ang nakikita natin na anggulo dito… parang may utang sa previous, sa utang na involved ang pera,” PLTCOL Ferdinand Lopez, chief of the Calasiao Police Station, said.
Family and friends gathered to mourn Dexter at his home in Barangay Gabon.
Marites also reported no known family disputes.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities reviewing closed circuit television (CCTV) footage and tracing leads.
"Na-identify na rin natin ang sasakyan. Tuloy-tuloy pa rin natin ‘yung pagkuha ng information," Lopez said.
