A Bongo-type truck plowed through a parked motorcycle and injured a man straddling on the vehicle and a woman about to ride pillion with him.
The incident that was caught on CCTV camera happened in Sitio Canlagang Dos, Barangay Don Gregorio Antigua, Borbon town, north Cebu Province on November 2, 2024.
The victims were rushed to the Sogod District Hospital but were transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.
The CCTV footage showed that the 24-year-old man, a resident of Barangay Kahil, was straddling on his motorcycle and about to rev it up while the 23-year-old woman was tinkering her cellphone by the roadside, when a Bongo truck careened onto the sidewalk and plowed through them.
The footage showed that the motorcycle was parked properly by the roadside, but the vehicle drove way past its lane that hit the victims eventually.
The 31-year-old driver is found to be a resident of Lapinig town, Province of Northern Samar.
He admitted reportedly to the authorities that he is not familiar with the road.
The Bongo truck was headed for San Remegio town.
The driver and his companion were unscathed in the incident.
Police Master Sergeant Rogelio Sinadjan, investigator at Borbon Police Station, in an interview with DYSS Super Radyo Cebu, confirmed that the Bongo truck was traveling from Cebu City to northern Cebu when it maneuvered past the sidewalk and hit the victims.
“Mibiyahe ni siya padung sa norte…na-surprise kuno siya sa dalan, kay dili siya taga-dinhi. Taga-Samar ni siya. Two years pa kuno siya sa city, stay-in ni siya,” Sinadjan said.
The driver was placed under the custody of the Borbon Police.
