In Calasiao, Pangasinan, police intensified security at the town’s cemetery to ensure a safe observance of Undas, but challenges remain.

For example, authorities confiscated a machete, or itak, from a visitor.

Police reminded the public of the rules on prohibited items.

“Binigyan natin ng warning. Gustong pumasok but then kinuha lang natin. Pag-uwi niya, kukunin din niya,” Calasiao Police Chief PLTCOL Ferdinand Lopez said.

Heavy rains from the previous day left parts of the cemetery flooded, creating inconvenience for visitors.

"Mahirap lumusong kasi ito siguradong may virus — marumi," Marcelo Maningding, Jr., who visited with his family, said.

Despite the floodwaters, 72-year-old Lorenza Abat waded through the muddy grounds to honor her loved ones.

“Kung di sana umulan kahapon sana konti lang ang tubig dito. Umulan naman kasi,” she said.

Authorities also assisted a senior citizen who slipped and suffered minor injuries, and provided help to visitors with elevated blood pressure.

The Calasiao Philippine National Police (PNP) and other agencies assure that patrols will continue throughout the cemetery to ensure a peaceful and safe Undas.
