Although #LeonPH has no direct effect in Antique, the Provincial Government has braced for the prospect of torrential rains based on an advisory of state weather bureau PAGASA.

Rain poured on October 29, 2024 but was described by weather experts to be "thin."

Rivers and low-lying areas in the province are monitored tightly after #KristinePH affected approximately 7,000 residents in Antique.

“Nagpalabas tayo ng advisory sa local counterparts na gumawa ng anticipatory actions or preparedness in anticipation ng possible adverse effects ng Tropical Cyclone Leon,” Broderick Train, head of the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Face-to-face classes in all levels were suspended in 18 local government units (LGUs) in Antique on October 29, 2024. These LGUs are: San Jose, Culasi, Anini-y, Sibalom, Belison, Libertad, Valderrama, Hamtic, Pandan, Tobias Fornier, San Remigio, Barbaza, Sebaste, Patnongon, Laua-an, Caluya, and Tibiao.

Water level in Tipuluan River in Sibalom town was observed to rise a little beyond normal.

Residents spent sleepless nights, they said, while monitoring the level of water because the experience constant flooding.

The constant flooding they said have taught them to pack up essential belongings in case a preemptive evacuation is ordered.

“Aalis na naman. Kaya ako naghahanda ng mga gamit ko para umalis na naman,” Jiory Elbanbuena, a resident, said.

“Noon sa [Bagyong] Paeng, umakyat ... ang tubig. Kaya palagi kaming nininerbiyos,” another resident named Nerry Bacawag said.

In the Municipality of Hamtic, sea vessels stalled venturing out at sea because of the inclement weather.

According to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (RDRRMO) 6, blue alert was hoisted over the entire Western Visayas from October 29 to 30, 2024.

RDRRMO 6 has monitored tightly the Provinces of Antique, Aklan, and Negros Occidental.

“Naka-alert na at na-inventory na ang ating response groups sa Western Visayas for easy deployment and coordination,” Maria Christina Mayor, spokesperson of RDRRMC 6, said.

Water activities most especially swimming in the sea were monitored in Boracay Island, Malay town, Aklan to thwart any untoward incident because of the inclement weather.

A Red Flag Policy has been hoisted and that night swimming is prohibited strictly, Mayor added.

The Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has also been monitoring the weather condiiton and alerted residents in coastal and low-lying barangays of a preemptive evacuation should the need arise.

“Base sa available na weather data, tina-try namin na localized at magbigay ng available na forecast para sa lungsod,” said Patricia Constantinopla, staff member of the Operations Center of Iloilo City DRRMO.
