Following severe flooding from #KristinePH, Dagupan City has been placed under a state of calamity with authorities focusing on aid and recovery for thousands of residents affected.

The declaration, recommended by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and approved by the City Council, follows widespread storm surges and flooding that submerged 21 barangays.

Ten other barangays were inundated due to a combination of heavy rain and high tides.

"Umiikot kami, binibigyan namin yung priority na apektadong sobra, like yung island barangays," Mayor Belen Fernandez said.

"Ang nangyari, doon nag-meet ang river at saka ang dagat, nagsalubong yung tubig kaya naging stagnant," Fernandez added.

Over 660 families, or around 2,020 individuals, have been evacuated to safer areas.

Preliminary reports from the city agriculture office estimate that crop and aquaculture damage has reached P34 to P35 million, impacting the livelihoods of more than 11,000 people.

Medical support efforts are now ongoing, including free dental check-ups and medications, especially for children.

Local health workers have also started fever surveillance to detect any early signs of illness among residents affected.

"Nagsasagawa kami ng fever surveillance para early detection ng [sa] mga bata. Kapag mayroon na kaming nakitang may fever, pinapa-check up namin agad sa City Health," Maria Gracia Miranda, the city midwife, said.
