Floodwaters remain waist-deep in parts of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan as of Monday, October 28, 2024, due to #KristinePH with residents from Barangay Centro 10 forced to set up tents along Gomez Street.
Despite the Cagayan River’s water level receding gradually, residents face prolonged flooding due to lack of drainage systems in their area.
“Kailangan namin dito drainage para mawala ang tubig na ito,” Hadji Ali-Ambiong, a resident, said.
Many families have moved their essential appliances and furniture into roadside tents, where they now sleep, while only children stay in nearby evacuation centers.
“Para mabantayan namin mga gamit namin, mga bata nalang ang nasa evacuation center,” Maribel Dela Cruz, one of the residents, said.
The local government is considering placing Tuguegarao under a state of calamity, with data showing over 30,000 individuals affected by the flood.
“The report just came in, sa agri 10 million ang damages, sa livelihood at economy, since four days na walang pasok,” Mayor Maila Ting-Que said.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 2 is on high alert as #LeonPH approaches.
“Ang assumption namin ay magdadala ng pag-ulan ang bagyo na ito, and ngayon saturated ang Cagayan River,” OCD Director Leon De Guzman Rafael Jr. said.
With the river still swollen, concerns remain over possible renewed flooding if heavy rains persist.
