The Buntun River in Cagayan rose above the critical level, reaching 11.2 meters and flooding 33 barangays in Tuguegarao City on Friday, October 25, 2024.

With more rain expected, residents are bracing for worsening conditions.

“Nagulat ako kasi akala namin walang tubig... lumabas ako ng 12 o'clock, may baha na,” Epifania Sibal, a resident of Barangay Gosi Sur, said.

Flooding has also rendered eight roads and bridges in Tuguegarao City impassable, including Pinacanauan overflow bridge.

"At 6 meters, may mga flooding na po tayo. Hindi na madaanan ang Pinacanauan overflow bridge pati ‘yung sa Amulung bridge," Ruelie Rapsing, Officer-in-Charge of the Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Mayor Maila Ting-Que said that despite clear skies, the water level continued to rise.

“Kahit wala nang ulan... we are still receiving reports na umaakyat ang tubig sa iba't-ibang lugar,” she said.

The flooding has spread to neighboring towns like Enrile, affecting Enrile West Central School, while soil erosion near homes in Amulung is raising concerns among residents.
