A 27-year-old farmer in Manguso, Zamboanga City drowned while trying to escape the strong current at a river amid heavy rains and strong winds brought by Severe Tropical Storm #KristinePH.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the farmer was harvesting coconuts on the side of the river at the boundary of Vitali and Mangusu on October 22, 2024 when water at the river rose.

The barangay council said the farmer attempted to escape the strong current but he got pulled into the river and drowned.

His body was found morning on Thursday in Sitio Bingkul, Mangusu.

Meanwhile, the inclement weather experienced in the city has displaced at least 26 families in the coastal area of Patalon; one family on Km 15, Barangay La Paz; two families in Barangay Talisayan; and three families in Labuan, according to the local government.

The city government provided assistance to the residents affected.
