Two men who posed as agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were arrested in an entrapment operation for allegedly extorting money from a Chinese businessman in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

Confiscated from the suspects were fake NBI identification cards (IDs), fake NBI uniform, illegal firearm, and ammunition.

According to the victim, the suspects allegedly threatened to implicate him to illegal drugs if he would not give in to their demand.

“Tung first time kinse (mil) tapos balik na pud sila 35 na. Naka-NBI man sila na uniform, oo ginahadlok mi nga nagahimo mi shabu,” the victim said.

The NBI-11 said most of the targets of the suspects are Chinese and local businessmen. The two have been operating allegedly not only in Panabo City but in the entire Davao region, and some areas in Caraga region.

“Ang modus operandi nila, the moment they identify Chinese people, pupuntahan nila. They will approach this Chinese, they will start threatening, harassing, and there, after ask money, in lieu for their continuous stay in Davao region, so that they will not be arrested and deported to China,” Ely Leano, agent of NBI-11, said.

“We encourage those na nagbibigay na legitimate business to come to the office and file complaints against the subject,” NBI-11 Special Investigator, Jugary Guro, added.

The suspects refused to comment.

The suspects will face charges for robbery extortion, illegal possession of firearms, and usurpation of authority.

“We will find out kung sino man ang nasa likod nila and we will file appropriate charges against them,” Guro said.
