Three separate incidents of persons swept away by floodwaters were recorded in the Province of Negros Oriental because of heavy rainfall.

The incidents happened in the Municipalities of Mabinay and Pamplona afternoon of October 23, 2024.

Of the three persons swept away by floodwaters two have remained missing, as of this writing.

According to witnesses, a farmer was swept away while crossing a river in Mabinay despite the strong current.

Rescuers found one person alive at past 5 p.m. and is now recuperating at home from the wounds he sustained. The man identified only as “Isidro” said that he was fishing with his friends near the riverbank in Pamplona, but the waters rose swiftly.

Personnel of the respective town’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, with police personnel from Mabinay and Pamplona are undertaking Search and Retrieval Operations as of posting time.
