Over 4,000 families or over 20,000 individuals have been affected by #KristinePH in Western Visayas, based on data from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. 

At least 45 houses were destroyed by strong winds and over 600 travelers were stranded as sea trips remained suspended as of October 24, 2024. They were given food and drinking water by the barangay.

“Binigyan kami ng hapunan galing sa barangay. Maghihintay na lang kami, tiyaga lang,” Samuel Panizales, a stranded traveler, said.

Flights from Manila to Iloilo and Manila to Bacolod City were also cancelled.

Over 4,000 schools suspended in-person classes all over Region 6.

A preemptive evacuation was ordered for residents in coastal barangays of Iloilo City because of huge waves and strong winds. One of the residents Rena Presquito said she is glad about the response as the winds were very strong.

“Nag-decide akong lumikas, sympre may maliit pa akong anak, may anak pa akong buntis. Grabe ang hangin,” Presquito said.

In the morning of October 24, 2024, Commission Civil Street was temporarily impassable in Barangay Our Lady of Fatima, Jaro, Iloilo City after a large tree fell. The Local Government Unit (LGU) facilitated clearing operations.

“Jiny,” one of the drivers affected by the situation said that he did not notice the tree about to fall.

“Hindi ko siya nakita, nagulat nga lang ako [bumagsak na],” Jiny said.

A number of trees and electric tricycles (e-trikes) due to a whirlwind reported to have occurred at dawn of October 24, 2024 in Boracay Island.

In Barangay Banago, Bacolod City, at least four houses were destroyed because of pounding winds. 

Luis Villarante, one of residents affected, admitted that the situation caught his family off guard. He said that the gust and strength of the winds scared him.

“Hindi talaga kami nakapaghanda. Mabilis na pumasok ang alon at ang lakas ng hangin. Nakakatakot talaga kahit na hollow blocks ang pader namin,” Villarante said.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA in Iloilo, the radius of #KristinePH is considerably wide which made its effects felt beyond Luzon.

“Nasa 730 kilometer[s] from the center. Medyo malawak siya to the point na naabot niya tayo,” Jan Baron, PAGASA-Iloilo weather observer, said.

Further, the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 has distributed food packs worth over P1 million to affected residents.
