A female radio broadcaster was shot dead in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City evening on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Police identified the victim as Maria Vilma Rodriguez, 56. She tackled barangay affairs in her radio segment.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was sitting outside her house with her mother, sister, and nephew when the gunman appeared suddenly and shot her three times.

She did not reach the hospital alive.

Investigators recovered a slug believed to be from a caliber .38 firearm, from the crime scene.

Authorities arrested the 33-year-old suspect during a hot pursuit operation. The suspect is a neighbor and a relative of the victim, according to the police.

Police are investigating the incident to determine the motive in the killing.

“The Police Regional Office 9 extends its heartfelt condolences to the victim's family during this difficult time. We assure the public that the investigation remains ongoing, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure justice is served,” Police Regional Office-Zamboanga (PRO-9) said.
