All jail officers on duty when two minors were taken hostage by three inmates at the male dormitory of the Digos City District Jail in Digos City, Davao del Sur are being investigated.

In an interview with GMA Super Radyo Davao, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Davao (BJMP-11) Spokesperson, Jail Senior Inspector Edo Lobenia, said personnel who will be found to have committed lapses in implementing security protocols may face administrative charges.

Three inmates held a 10-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl hostage while the two were visiting their fathers who are also inmates on Sunday, October 20, 2024,

The inmates who were armed with an improvised bladed weapon demanded that they be made to go home to Kiblawan town.

The negotiation lasted for two hours but ended in a scuffle that injured the suspects, the victims, and four BJMP personnel.

The six-year-old girl is still recuperating at the Philippines Medical Center and is reportedly in stable condition, as of this writing.

The victims will undergo psychological intervention.

“From time to time, magkakaroon ng therapy ‘yung bata para siyempre ma-address natin ‘yung traumas or matingnan ng ating mga psychologist at psychometrician po,” Lobenia said.

The three inmates have been moved to an isolation cell to prevent tension since the victims are children of their fellow inmates.

They will face more charges for frustrated murder and child abuse.
